Dear Member

The snow is lying deep and crisp on the tennis courts but our Opening Day is not far away!

Here is a note of forthcoming events:

  1. Adult Opening Day- Sunday 2 April 2006 at 2pm

This will be the usual format of an American Tournament starting at 2pm.  All past members and any new members are very welcome!  Please bring with you a contribution to afternoon tea!

Margaret Nicol has kindly agreed to do a “spring clean” of the Clubhouse during the week before.  Please contact her to come along and give her a hand!

As was discussed at the AGM, Douglas Gibson is organising a “work party” to clear the winter debris from the courts which will be this Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th March commencing 10am for an hour or so – again all members able to help in this should contact him.

  1. Junior Opening Day – to be advised depending on availability!

We look forward to the return of our past members and to meeting new Juniors.  Do come along and bring any friends who would like to try tennis.

Again this year we will be entering a League and there will also be coaching offered as per the enclosed leaflet.  Please note that if you are a member of the Tennis Club there is a reduction in the cost of the coaching.

  1. Coaching

Once again we are delighted to have the services of Jaki Stewart, a fully licensed LTA Coach.  She will be providing a Coaching Programme as per the enclosed leaflet.  In particular, there will be pre-season Adult Coaching on Tuesday 18 and 25 April from 7.30-9pm in preparation for the matches!  The cost of these will be £6 per session- please sign up in the Clubhouse.

In addition, in an effort to ease ourselves in gently, there will be informal Club practise sessions on Tuesday 4 and 11 April from 7.30pm which all are welcome to attend!

Any beginners should note that Jaki will again be running her “beginners and rusty rackets” sessions – see the enclosed leaflet for details.

As a Club, we will also be sponsoring her again this year to do some coaching at both RDM and Burrelton schools.

  1. Teams

We have entered the usual 2 Ladies teams and 1 Gents team in the Midlands Leagues and a Henderson Vase team.  Teams will also be entered for the Ladies, Gents and mixed Perth & District Leagues. Team Captains are as follows – if you are interested in playing for any of the teams , please make contact!

Ladies 1 – Morag Bull

Ladies 2 – Sheila Frenz

Gents – Ian Hunter

P&D Ladies – Elaine Dewar

P&D Gents- Alan Barwell

P&D Mixed  - Alan Henderson

5. Play Tennis Day – Sunday 7 May

This is a fun day for Juniors of all standards and “Beginner” Adults.

10am – 12 noon – beginner children

12noon- 2pm -      intermediate children and Adult beginners

  1. Wimbledon Tickets

Scone Tennis Club have been allocated 2 pairs of tickets for no.1 Court on Friday 30 June and Centre Court on Saturday 1 July at a cost of £94 for 2 and £102 for 2 respectively.

If any member is interested in purchasing these tickets, please contact Fiona Bruce by 16 April.

  1. Update on Management Agreement and funding.

We have now received a formal draft Management Agreement which we have returned to Perth & Kinross Council with revisals.  We have now received further revisals from them – it trundles on!

Douglas Gibson and I had a meeting with Perth & Kinross Council on 8 March regarding funding.  They want us to re-apply to Sport Scotland for the 50% on the basis that £27500 will be deposited in our name and will therefore be our “contribution”. Again it appears to be one step forward and two back!

8.    Charity Social event

We have agreed to send 2 ( or more!) ladies doubles to an “afternoon of tennis” at Kinnoull TC in May – again any interested members please add your name to the list in the clubroom.

9. Club nights

The social club nights are on the usual evenings as below. See the club notice board for commencement dates.

Ladies – Wednesdays at 7.30pm

Gents –  Sundays at 7.30pm

Mixed -   Fridays at 7.30pm

10. Subscriptions

There was agreement at the AGM to keep the subscriptions at last years figures:

Adults                         £75

Intermediates               £25 (up to 21 in full time  education)

Juniors                         £20(up to 16 years, born 1990 or later)

We look forward to receiving your subscriptions on Opening Day – 2 April.  It is possible to pay in a lump sum or over a period of 6 months by standing order.  Please contact our Treasurer, Fraser Gibson, to arrange this.

11. Committee Members :

The following Committee was elected at the 2005 AGM:

President – Fiona Bruce

Rosemary Price

Treasurer- Fraser Gibson

Douglas Gibson

Donald Stewart

As you will be aware, Morag Bull stated at the AGM that she would not be continuing as Secretary but acting simply as a “postbox”  It is imperative in the light of all that is going on that we function with a Secretary.  Please contact any Committee member if you feel this is something you can take on this year.

Most of you will be aware that one of our most active members, John Jasper, has been unwell since the end of last season and the Club unites in wishing him success in his treatment .  Everyone hopes to see him down at the Club soon!

With best wishes for the New Season,

The Committee
